10 Great Holiday Date Ideas

It's the holiday season, and this time of year takes all the work out of setting a romantic scene. All the elements for romance are already in place. There's a nip in the air, the decorations are hung and we're all feeling a little sentimental and full of goodwill. There’s magic in the air, so you don't have to do much to take advantage of the romantic atmosphere that's all around you. We've got 10 great ideas for dates this time of year.

1. Christmas shopping

You don't have to spend any money, just go out window shopping. You can enjoy the holiday decorations and Christmas music that is playing in most shopping areas. And in many malls this time of year, you'll find extra goodies -- like Christmas carolers and free tastings and other goodies. Get out and enjoy being a part of the crowd.

2. Christmas tree decorating

So maybe you want to be alone with your special someone. Then invite them over to help you hang up the Christmas decorations at your house. Put a fire in the fireplace and some Dean Martin tunes on the hi-fi -- this is how your grandpa seduced your grandma -- and all the same tricks will still work. Spend a night away from your smartphones, tablets and television. Just have a conversation. All that talk could lead to a lot of intimacy and passion in the bedroom.

3. Holiday cocktails

It's the perfect time of year to invite someone to go out for a drink. You can enjoy a sweet treat like Bailey's Irish Crème, or go out and discover some new red wines together at a holiday wine tasting. You'll have so much fun and get to know each other better.

4. Ice skating

If you've never ice skated before, you'll quickly discover that the one thing you'll need at an ice rink is a helping hand. You can hold each other up as you go round and round the rink enjoying some special time together. And don't forget to sip hot cocoa during intermission. It's so romantic.

5. Looking at Christmas lights

This is the reason that Drive-Thru Starbuck's were invented! Get in the car, stop by Starbuck's for a couple of Pumpkin Spice Lattes and then head out to your favorite neighborhood where they overdue the holiday lights ever year. There is nothing like this to put you both in the mood for the holidays. And when your heart is humming Christmas songs you know you are more likely to want to get it on.

6. Go to the Nutcracker Ballet or Christmas Carol

There are some holiday traditions that just shouldn't be missed. It doesn't matter if it's the NYC Ballet or the sixth grade class in Phoenix, the story of the Nutcracker -- and all of the music will thrill you every time. And the story of Christmas Carol always reminds you of what is really important about the holiday season -- just in case you've forgotten.

7. Holiday baking

What better way to get sweet with your honey, then by baking up some sugar plums together. Spend an afternoon baking cookies or making bread together in the kitchen. The oven temperature isn't the only thing that will rise. You may start in the kitchen, but you'll end up in the bedroom for certain.

8. Volunteer

Who could say no to day spent devoted to helping others. Not only will you be able to spend time together, you'll also feel good when the day is at the end. It's a perfect holiday date, and a tradition you can hope to share for many years to come.

9. Sledding

If there's snow on the ground, then you might as well get out and enjoy it! There's no reason to stay indoors and catch cabin fever. Wrap your arms around each other and fly down the local sledding hill. Laughing is a great way to feel sexy!

10. Watch Christmas movies

Let's face it, if the weather outside is frightful there is nothing better than a night spent inside with a big bowl of popcorn and the television remote. There are so many wonderful Christmas movies that two people can share. Start with "A Miracle on 34th Street," "It's A Wonderful Life," and "Love Actually" if you need a few suggestions.
